Every vehicle you rent in Canada and USA will have mandatory owner’s liability insurance or bond.

You should book and pay for the rental with a credit card that has free vehicle collision insurance, ideally as the primary insurance. You must decline the rental car company’s collision insurance.

Make sure the rental car contract allows you to drive the vehicle between the two countries. Inform the rental car company when you take possession that you will be driving it between the two countries.
Fun is like life insurance; the older you get, the more it costs.
